Having had a hand in renovation of The Carolina Theatre in Durham many years back, we found that two things helped tremendously in getting the renovation to happen. The first thing was volunteerism. The second was publicity.
Combining the two kept The Carolina Theatre in the public eye and generated an enthusiasm for the project which won out over the nay-sayers.

Productions are an ancient form of storytelling and with this age of Facebook, YouTube and DVR this creative ritual will now be kept alive in our community. The ability to audition for a production, offer a person’s skills as a builder, help edit sound effects or paint a backdrop will be a welcome asset to the local community and marketplace. After almost 20 years of theater experience in my younger years I respect the opportunities that a local community theater will offer to our surrounding area. Between nurturing new artists by presenting a place to hone their craft in front of feedback from a live audience, or having classes for children’s and adult theater this will be a welcome addition to Greenville and the Uptown area.
Not only will it allow the patrons to enjoy a show but will also allow small business owners the opportunity to reach a captive audience by reaching them during the preshow wait, intermissions and post show program browsing. This will also allow the visibility of businesses in the wonderful Uptown area to spread across a larger portion of the local population and drive the local economy to a better place.
There is defiantly magic that happens after months of hard work by the cast to create an imaginary place for an audience to enjoy for a brief moment of their lives. With the renovation of this theater the stage manager will lower the house lights and begin the hushed awe once the curtains open on the renovated Uptown Greenville Theater.
Besides, why drive a long distance to eat, play and shop when you can do it in Uptown Greenville?

The Grand Opening Gala for the Turnage Theater in Washington was $150 invitation only. It was packed. The cost of tickets is often $40 per person and people are thrilled to pay. The restaurants serve special meal packages. If you have anecdotal information about the theather you should send it in.
I am thrilled Magnolia Arts is involved!

Uptown Greenville applauds the decision of the Redevelopment commission to purchase the theater. Renovating the space to be used for many uses (theare, concerts, dance, lectures, film and banquet event space) would create a unique destination in the heart of our community year-round.
